| p.1 #1 · This is why I broke my ankle! | |
A few weeks ago I contacted Mike Lentz about his GGO photographs. We decided I'll trade my Whitetail Kite spots for his GGOs! A few weeks later I was with several FMers hunting down this beauty! On the last day, we decided we wanted more of this action, so we walked the forests of Sax-Zim Bog in minus 21 degree cold trying to relocate this bird. My fingers and feet began to freeze, and I didn't feel the slope getting steeper under the 2 feet of snow. Eventually I planted my right foot under a log or something and fell forward and twisted to catch my fall. By the time it was over my foot turned counterclockwise 180 degrees and I heard a snap. I called out for Ant (who was 20 yards away) who helped me back into the car. Now the doctor says I have a choice, surgery (with all the possible complications associated) in a couple days when the swelling goes down which will ensure proper healing, or just put a heavy cast on it as it is a clean break, and take the chance of it healing a little off, which could cause a permanent limp and arthritis. I haven't decided yet what to do, but I am looking at at least 8 weeks of immobility then 4 to 6 months before full recovery. I tell you guys and gals, bird photography is DANGEROUS BUSINESS! I'll post one image a day or so until I get better or until I run out of material, whichever comes first. Haha! I am also very happy to take any donations of your RAW files you don't have time to process to occupy my time. I'm quite serious! Send the files to my email at conradtanphotography@gmail.com
A few more to come... but let's start with this shot!
