they made the screen larger, which is helpful. I think they increased the buffer.
If I remember correctly they added profiles to the exposures.
I believe Canon is no longer repairing the 2, but may still repair the 2N.
You may be able to get the 2 repaired at a big shop though.
I went from the 2 to the 2N and the screen did make a difference.
Do you have two to choose from? Is there much difference in the asking price?
Either way it's a great camera for outdoor sports. The think is a Tank.

Wasn't looking at two specific ones, more of just wondering which one in general I should be looking at. Hows it for indoor sports? probably not very good without fast glass.
The screen. the buffer, picture styles but most important for me a much quicker and easier way of swapping from one memory card to the other, which is a pain on the 1DII
The 1DII also produced the softest files on any Canon body by default which sharpened up well but needed much more sharpening than the 1DIIN even though they had the same sensor
I've had both and they are good cameras but unless you get the cropping right in camera you can very quickly run out of pixels
Put check mark in the "include discontinued" box. Select the two models, then compare.
I was looking at the DP review, but they didn't have a review on the 1D IIN. Didn't know they had a compare tool. Thanks.

- servicability by Canon, but it will be the next one off their list
- buffer, cards, color profiles and better out of camera IQ
- automatic folder roll-over. Original 1D and Mk2 stopped your shooting until you made a new folder once you hit image9999.jpg
This is a timely topic for me. I have both bodies lying around. I don't know why I never sold them, but I haven't used them in a number of years since I upgraded to the 1DIV and subsequently the 1DX.
Shortly after buying the 1DIIN, I began shooting internationally and needed a landscape body so I picked up the 1DsII. After that, I rarely needed the speed so I hardly used the 1D's.
Now a friend of mine wants a "pro" body and would like to purchase one of the two. He asked me what the difference is between the two and I had to think hard to remember that I picked up the 1DIIN for the larger buffer, larger LCD and ability to write raw to one card and jpeg to the other.
I'm now playing with each of them and they are in great working order. It took a couple of minutes to remember how to maneuver through the menu system since it has changed.
These days the 2N is a no brainer as prices are so low. Frankly though I would get the 1D III, which is a much better camera IMO and is also at stupid low prices now and will be serviceable for a lot longer.

Well being as you need to grow an extra hand or at least a couple of extra fingers on each hand I don't think I ever tried to delete an image in camera. In fact it was such a fiddle to just review any images I don't think I bothered very often.
Plus 1 to Wayne's mk3 suggestion. In fact I was looking yesterday and they seem dangerously at the point where I could cave in an buy one . (Which means I must stop looking , otherwise I may just find a delivery driver on the doorstep )
Shot sports with both. The IIN is definitely the better choice. It also has better AWB, which is not mentioned in any of the documentation, but is noticeable particularly in crappy gym lighting. No contest - go for the IIN.
