I have heard that there are many good camera shops, with many used gears in good conditions in Japan, anyone here have experience with that? I will go to Tokyo (again, 2nd trip there within 4 months ) and might visit some if I have time. Any recommendations? I will be around Tokyo/Kanto area but won't have much time going too far away. Thanks.
What about Yodobashi Kamera in Shinjuku ? I went there in 2005, and it was pretty much a full block of camera stores. I do not remember specifically about used equipment though. When I was there, prices were quite high on new stuff.
Thanks. I have been to Yodobashi in Osaka before.... it used to have LOTS of film.... many different kind of Fuji films that I haven't seen outside Japan. I can't remember anything that was cheap but some itmes/accessories (like Canon 500D filter) can be easily found there (a little difficult to find / expensive in Hong Kong, I think shops prefer to sell me a dedicated macro... but I seldom travel with a dedicated macro lens!!)
Yes, exactly. It is quite interesting you mention the 500D, as I was interested in it, but would never found it and Yodobashi was the first place where I could see it, try it, and determine it was not the right item to get for me... (and I did greatly appreciate the 15 min the clerk spent with me to assess it).
With a little hesitation .. I just typed "map" "camera" "tokyo" in google and am surprised to see a camera shop came up (even with those common words) . Thanks
IIRC there were a good number of shops around the Shinjuku Yodabashi, but just getting there from the Yamanote line was an adventure in itself. Yodabashi is always worth a look for new stuff as well, IMO.
There's one in Nakano called Fujiya Camera that's really good. I think it's just one stop or so from Shinjuku on the JR Chuo line if you take the rapid train. Prices are good and everything comes with 6 month guarantee.
