I find it odd it happened at the same time as this. Coincidence?
Apple stock fell over investor's concern that sales of the iPhone are going to be flat. Apple's investors could hardly care about Apple removing one app.
The significance in this story is only that it is another example of the inconsistency in the review of apps by Apple.
I was being somewhat sarcastic. Anybody with half a brain, or in my case a third of one, would know this isn't why.
I don't agree with your opinion about Apples inconsistency in reviewing apps. See next comment...
So I assume Safari will be removed from all Apple devices asap right?
Exactly. As well as Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Dolphin, etc being removed as apps also. You know, since a browser can take us to the interwebs where there is an over abundance of inappropriate photographs.
I despise this company more and more every day.
OK, why? Did the late Steve Jobs personally destroy your PC, or are you offended how a successful business operates unlike the other Fortune 500 corporations which includes Bank of America and Exxon Mobile? 500X appears to be a quality photo site that had some questionable content inserted that apparently even they weren't aware of until Apple called it to their attention. I think Apple acted responsibly, and re-stressed their clean content guidelines. Nude photos are sometimes posted on FM even though users are supposed to provide a link, not post directly. Despite those rare incidents we keep coming back because most of us are grown-ups. We don't get all hung about things like witnessing Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" five years ago. Leave the fake outrage to that group of individuals who supposedly represent the people in Congress.
Well, I could ask "why" it seems that you are jumping to Apples defense and and assume that you are an Apple fanboy. But I won't. I respect you and any opinions you may have in regards to their business ethics and corresponding products. But it doesn't mean I have to agree with them. I really don't need to give a reason as to why I don't like Apple, but in answer to your question, my own personal reasons. Mainly because of the pompous arrogancy in which Mr Jobs ran his company. While this type of persona usually makes a company boatloads of cash, Mr Jobs' original "idea" that made Apple what it is today, wasn't his own. He more-or-less took someone else's idea. He didn't come up with the idea of the mouse, nor the graphical user interface. Xerox did. And much of the same can be said for Mr. Gates, who's company I don't care for either. But those are other stories altogether and I digress.
I certainly don't agree that "Apple acted responsibly, and re-stressed their clean content guidelines." If this were the case, they should have pulled all browser apps, and any other apps that allow the end user to access the internet content of their choice. Just because Apple may possibly help China with censoring and filtering internet content on Apple devices (which I've read they do but who knows), doesn't mean it should be done here in the US. I'm sorry, but that infringes on my rights IMO. It's like people who complain about a certain type of music a radio station plays. Well, if you don't like it, change the channel. In this case, don't visit that site. Plain and simple. Now as far as the child pornography issue is concerned, anyone involved with that should be subjected to the types of torture that are only imaginable. The types of things that I will not type into words. If you have children too, I think you know what I mean. But if this type of material exists, or has existed, on 500px, I would hope the site's administrators and moderators would remove it immediately and forward the IP used for posting said content to the proper authorities. I've co-admin'd a large website before. Looking up, and banning, the IPs of users isn't hard to do.
