Both are nice Ken. I'd give the bare flash a shot - nothing to loose, and if you are really close to the bird, the BB may not be necessary anyway ~ Ron

Ken, I'm heading to the east coast shortly and decided I may not bring any gear. Then I see these and remember that I don't have any Blue Jays! I better bring some sort of gear!

Anyway

Two well executed shots in dim light. I would try Ron's idea. I do think you were close enough for a bare flash to work. I like the "tear" in 2, somehow it makes me feel sorry for this guy's situation. Even if he is a PITA

Great shots Ken. I didn't even know you had blue jays up there. I played around a little with these in PS and I think you can lighten them quite a bit with a little judicious masking. Lots of nice detail hidden in there.
