Two tricolor herons. Portrait is from the pond near my home in SW Florida and the fishing heron is from Shark Valley in the Everglades which has been full of birds lately. Used Niks Color Effex Pro, detail extactor, on both. Portrait was with my new 600mm and fishing heron was with my 70-200f2.8v2 with 2xTC, both on Canon 1D4 bodies. Darkened the background on the fishing heron and removed some distracting background foliage. .http://www.pbase.com/wfr2/image/148414528.jpg http://www.pbase.com/wfr2/image/148414530.jpg
Thanks. I always find it interesting how people react to my photos. Sometimes I am really surprised. jNot this time though. Only the fishing heron made it to print. I too liked the tension. I also like the light. I also like my current kit. The 70-200f2.8v2 is the best lens I have ever had and the new 600 is proving itself. (My old 500 was great and I replaced it with trepidation) I bought a 5D3 but prefer my 1D4s for wildlife. Mostly because my lousy eye sight cannot readily see the black AF points of the 5D3. Hopefully, the coming fix will correct this.
Nice Bill. For #1 (my pick), I would be tempted to make the background, and maybe even the foreground a bit darker. Maybe even more mood would result. Would be fun to play around with.
The color is exquisite in the second. The birds looks over processed which is a shame for such a sweet capture. Super background, possibly you can ease up on processing before printing this beauty.
