Chuck Hilliard and I went out to Anacortes, Washington this weekend to try and see the Northern Lights. We had dense fog in Seattle, as well as on the drive up there, but luckily the fog had held off the area we were shooting. Despite the lack of the aurora, Chuck had brought his huge telescope with him so we could get some photos of the moon with the camera adapter.
Really cool picture. Different yet effective technique. Great shot. I was really wondering how you got him so sharp, because it didn't look like you used a flash. Great job.
Interesting technique, Matt. Did you blue-gel your light for the back rim light? It looks a deeper blue than his jeans lit by white light. I might tone down the light on his pants; it competes for attention with the light on his face. All in all, though, this is a really fine image. I've been meaning to try some light painting myself.
BTW, it was fun meeting you at Photoshop World and shooting some street scenes after the House of Blues.
Steve! Glad to reconnect man! I had forgotten your name (terrible I know ) and was hoping to find you again sometime. Those were great times! I didn't gel it, but I did adjust his face with the white balance adjustment brush in Lightroom. Will try toning down the pants. Are you on Facebook?
