FWIW, I do not have the buffer upgrade and I only shoot HS sports. For the way I shoot, a large buffer is not a big deal; however, faster write times would be beneficial (is that a function of the card?).
if I remember correctly, and I definitely could be wrong, I believe you are restricted to cards of 2gb or less as the D1x used the FAT16 format to write to cards. But then again, maybe its the camera can only access 2 gb so anything over 2gb is a waste of space.
Your best bet is going to be the Lexar Professional 1000X. You pick the size. I like the 64 GB or 128 GB, but that is just me. Why spend the money on an expensive camera like the 1Dx and not get the most out of it.

Something tells me you read nothing in this thread.
You can find a bunch of them on eBay and really cheap too. Doubt you can buy anything off the shelf that will work. Your options are limited by the camera's own tech.
I know eventually I'll reach the point where people will go "You still shoot with a D3" but dang, a D1X, that is old. At least come up to a D2X or something.
