I'd consider it as valuable alternative to canons lenses, because it has IS and because you can use it with a D800. We spoke about the package
Ok Tamron makes a handful of VC lenses and it is only in the last two years it even got around to it's own version of USM. I was talking about a complete lens line-up including superteles, tilt-shift, specialist macro, ultrafast glass, DO lenses etc. Nikon is the only manufacturer close to Canon in this regard, while Sigma is constantly expanding but still has large holes in the lineup.
Even I agree with the Canon lenses mentioned, this kind of response sounds like a desperate excuse to me to say that Canon is still ahead in something at least. Since arguments in regard to camera innovation are running out to defend, now we have to look what is still good in the whole lineup. The step ahead of the competition in regard to FF cameras is there but not unbeatable yet. But we need to be without illusions that if nothing new pretty quickly happens in the Canon FF sensor area, Canon looses any possibility to match up with the current competition.
You feel it's necessary to highlight every shortcoming of Canon, why can't someone else highlight the positive aspects?
I believe earth and humanity has more good going for it than bad. Nevertheless, watch CNN for 30 minutes and you'd think we're all going to hell in a hand basket. Most people prefer to dwell on the bad, nasty and as mean rather than the good, clean and nice. Gear forums are no exception to this unfortunate taste.
