The birds weren't cooperating, so the rose became the model. Does this look grainy? I decided to play with the HDR. I would love some suggestions for making good floral portraits.
They both look nice, Nancy. My be some color shift? I see a blue cast on my monitor, especially in the first one. May be some reflection?
You can also try to push the DR even further and see if you like that look. HDR is always a matter of personal taste.
However, this is a very good start and you were able to get some very nice results

Nice Nancy. A little dark perhaps, but it's a nice composition. You got some nice detail in there. Did you try pulling up the shadows? You don't need perfectly lit stems, but generally, you want to see a support structure if possible. I don't get the "floating in space" effect with this one, so that's good, but a little more light underneath would be beneficial. Anyway, nice start!
Depending where your flower is, try bringing a black bkg poster board, hit the flower with some fill flash with the white foam between the flash and flower.

Thank you for those ideas Socrate. I am going to use your ideas and try again.

Thank you Greg. I didn't try that with the shadows. I agree about the floating in space part. My first attempt was even darker, but I think making it lighter would be better.
Thanks for the ideas.

Thanks Chad. Cool idea. Now, I have to try these ideas out, thanks.

The others have already said what I was going to say Nancy. How about; great to see you experimenting with something new!! This is how we grow and learn new techniques. Good on ya!!!
