With $1500 you could buy a 60D and 15-85 IS USM and have change left over for happy hour. Or maybe a used S90 and a 3 day weekend in Vegas?
I would get a used 5DmkII + 24-105. Otherwise a 5D + 24-105. I own all three so I know what I'm talking about. Yes a 60D has a better sensor but it's not FF and it has poor functionality. No MA too if I remember well.

It's gonna be very very tough to find a 5D2 + 24-105L for under $1,500 though.

Well yes I agree, but budget are never really fixed so if the OP can stretch for it, I find that a 5DmkII holds more value than a 5D, given the price different for used models. If he can't, a 5D+24-105 is an excellent budget FF option. I've used that walkaround combo for 5 years.
i dont think a 5DII, long term, will be a better buy than 5DC.
5DC has already lost about all the value it will lose, i'd think.
Think about it this way- another few years, 5DII's will be going for $500. Will the 5DC be $100 then?
@taylorman: 5Dc over 40D/50D definitely. If you prefer it over a 60D depends on your priorities. The 60D has a modern sensor, lower noise levels than a 5Dc. But it's not Full Frame so it's not for me. But it has video, live view, larger LCD, modern menus etc.
I have shot years and years with a 5D, used it for paid work, nice portraits, etc. If you can do without the modern extra's, it's still a great performer and well, I just love FF cameras.
@ISO1600: there's more to deciding between cameras than depreciation. Still I would gladly spend a couple of 100 more to get a 5DmkII. With video, Live View and MA, modern menus. And of course 1 stop better high ISO noise performance and 21mp. It's worth about $500, not more. When the 5DmkII came out in 2008 I decided I would not buy it new because it wasn't that much better than the 5D to justify spending 1500 extra. Now that the gap is much smaller, I decided to go for it. I'm not sorry I did.
