Whiting Brothers gas stations- spaced several hours from each other.
I remember way back (just before the Interstate made US 66 unnecessary), that, although there were hundreds of miles of beautiful "nothingness" when long-distance driving on US 66, my Dad could always rely on a Whiting Brothers Station when we needed one.
