i am looking for an inexpensive office printer. not for photos, just for b/w documents. anyone recommend a printed that is easy on the ink?

i have a 15 year old hp laserjet that died...... could print for a year or two on one cartridge....

any hep would be appreciated,

don't know exactly what you consider 'cheap' but I we've been happy with our Brother HL-2270DW b&w laser printer.

I've had a Brother 5250 (BW laser, networking & duplex) for 6 years and it's been great.

I went with an inexpensive inkjet and a CIS. laser like costs from an inkjet.

I've been happy with my Dell laser printers, like the 2350 or newer equivalent. I've had Brothers in the past and was not too happy with them. If you agree to recycle your used cartridges through Dell, you get a discount on the new ones. You can frequently find them at the Dell Outlet too.
