I've been into the store today to check out the Sigma 35mm 1.4 and compared it with the Nikon version on my D800. While i was testing the lens, i noticed that the Sigma underexposed for about 1/3 - 1 stop compared to the Nikon. I asked for another Sigma and the same thing happened again. Also the images of the Sigma seemed to be a bit warmer then the Nikon.
I haven't read anything about this issue on reviews, but then again most of them are about the Canon mount. A quick search on Google showed that more people has this issue with a variety of Sigma lenses. Does anybody else notices this problem with the lens?
I experienced the same under exposure compared to my 24-70. I used my d800e for the comparison. Could it be more contrast on the Sigma? The blacks seemed darker and skin tones less washed out.
Also, I did not see sharper images compared to the 24-70.
Update: just checked histogram. Shows under exposure compared to 24-70. All shots were taken in-store, no flash.
The calibration of the Sigma's aperture lever might be off. I tested two samples of the Tamron 24-70VC. The first was off by a full-stop, meaning f/4 had the identical DOF/transmission as f/2.8 (ie, the lens wasn't stopping down). The second copy was off by about 1/3 stop.
