p.1 #4 · 50 mm 1.4 IS ? So any idea when its coming out?
People have been waiting for a replacement to the 50 1.4 for years, it could be next month or in 2 years, they will never tell us. You have pretty much 4 choices - play the sigma 50 lottery, go with the 50 1.8 and deal with low build and buzzy AF plus hexagon bokeh, go with the 50 1.4 and deal with halation wide open or just shoot it at 1.8 and have great results, buy a 50L (what I did after trying all of the above). Sorry, just get the L. I don't see paying 900 for a 50 1.4 IS when the L is only $400 more used.

I like the halation, just wish they would fix the fugly bokeh wide open. Agree with you about f1.8 though, my most used lens and aperture for wedding work.

One of the reasons I chose Canon in the first place was the fact that they had some decent primes available for reasonable prices. Every new lens they've brought out has been rather expensive. I think something would be lost if the existing f/1.4 lens were to be replaced.
