I searched but didn't see any recent information on this. I have a Nikon 18-200 VR II lens with a broken autofocus (I had to gate-check my luggage, and when it came back, no more autofocus on that lens :-( ).
Is it worth it to try to get the lens repaired? Does anyone have any idea what the repairs would likely cost? Any recommendations on where to send it for repairs?
My 70-300 stopped working after it felt from my bag (my mistake).
I took the lens to the local authorized Nikon Repair center, here in Miami. They replaced the AF mechanism, cleaned and calibrated everything, for a total of $220.00.
That lens new will cost you above $500, so I think its worth it to try.
You would do VERY well to consider Authorized Photo Service in Chicago: http://nikoncamerarepair.com/
BBB rating of A+
-and would not do well with either of the Nikon Factory Service places in Melville, NY
(BBB rating of F)
and El Segundo, CA- just ask RBFresno on DPreview.
