I haven't been around much lately, but I'll try to do better.
First, I wish everyone a very Happy New Year!
Late afternoon on Saturday the sky was nice and I went by 'my' favorite cypress swamp to see what I could see. The water level was very low again, due to our long lasting drought, so I was able to get out even farther than before into the lake. When that's possible it really opens up another world of compositions, and in this case I was able to find an open area of water, without having to dodge the roadside brush and debris.
1) Cypress reflections,
The next morning as I retrieved the paper, a heavy fog was present so I beat it back to the swamp. I used virtually the same tripod holes in getting the first shot below. What a difference!
2) Foggy cypress reflections, b&w seemed to be called for
3) Foggy cypress reflections, wider view
4) Ditto, b&w
I can't make up my mind which I like better, color or b&w, so help!
These are awesome. I think I like the soft color a smidge better than the B/W. either way though you've got an otherworldly scene here. The reflections are crystal clear and the trees go on forever.
Hey Barry, welcome back! A great spot I remember well....and you've come up with a great set here. No 3 is the standout for me, it seems to make a huge difference the further out you can get into the swamp
cheers Andrew
What reflections! Very nice imaging, Barry. I'd pick #2 but all four are about the same image. I wish you'd posted just one of them so I can give one my full attention.

These are lovely! I find b&w works better for the first as it simplifies things. But for the next day, then the fog does that for you and the colour now works best for my tastes - very subtle. I might be tempted just to crop a tiny bit off the bottom, but that's nit picking...

Well it's great to have you back... You almost made me fly to Arkansas and go to your house and log you in myself...
Now what super sweet shots! It was interesting to read everyones comments, and it's really cool to compare the different versions. And I was looking to see if anyone else had come to the same conclusions that I had, so it was a relief to see that Lizzie had the same idea as I did. The B&W for the first set and the color version for the 2nd.
