p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Framing Help Needed

I've enjoyed shooting closeup using a 70-200 2.8 for a while and decided to purchase a Canon 180 macro. My initial attempts at using the 180 have been frustrating. Trying to use it hand held have result photos without any DOF because of the shutter speed plus often the results are slightly out of focus (I'm plan on buying a ring-flash to help with this sometime this year).

When trying to use my tripod, I find it almost impossible to align what I want to shoot. I know focusing rails would help, but, until I can afford a set does anyone have any suggestions for me on my issues?

Might help to know what you are trying to shoot. Since I don't have a focusing rail, I either do hand-held on burst fire or I setup on a tripod and move the subject I am shooting to find focus for.
