It has been a while since I posted any photos, so here are a few from my last game. This is a rivalry so intense that it requires metal detectors and police screening of bags before entering the gym. My team (in black) missed 2 shots in the final 18 seconds and lost by 1 (57-56). C&C welcome.
very nice timing and angles on these I like alot! Only shot that I feel is weaker than the others in #2 but you cant control his arm placement. Hopefully you can get him from the other side one day. nice colors and separation.
Thanks for the comments. I had originally thought #4 needed lead room in the direction of travel, but I think the suggested tighter cropped, now posted here, does work better. Thanks.
I agree that #2 would be stronger without the arm in front of the face and I usually shoot from different sides of the net for 1st and 2nd halves to cover right and left side shooters.
Poughkeepsie is not on Kingston's regular schedule and I don't know if they play Newburgh. When I was growing up in the 60s the Newburgh-Kingston football game was always on Thanksgiving Day and it was the biggest rivalry of the year. The last few years the idiots have really been coming out and requiring police presence. Two years ago after a hard foul, the yelling turned into full water and Gatorade bottles flying across the basketball court and the game ended with time on the clock and police K9 units on the floor. Last year at a girls game one of the parents was arrested for fighting on the court. It doesn't help that the girls game and the boys game are on back to back nights and if tensions rise at one they are still high to start the next.
This year with police in the gym the first round (they play home and away games) was pretty uneventful even with a close game. Hopefully the second round will be just as uneventful.
I can believe they would have good match-ups, I grew up in New Paltz in the early 60's, thankfully we were way to small to play either of them... Really impressed with the low noise in your shots.
Wow, #4 with the tighter cropping looks great and no flash or strobe at 6400 wiith noise reduction, great results. Where were you positioned when you took #4?
Thanks for the comments. I have only had the 1D IV for a couple of months, but I have been very impressed with the noise levels. My exposure was pretty close in camera for these and that helps a lot also.
Cliff,
For this game I was at the corner about five feet behind the baseline. I usually try to get just inside the three point line, but there was no room at this gym. For #4 I think the corner may have been the perfect angle.
Nice shots though some of the pictures have awkward compositions. I know because of the fast game you need to take pictures quickly but just make sure the pictures you take are composed well
