I hesitated and missed out on the 24-70/2.8 II deal that was $2049 and now it's back up. I wanted to talk to someone about it at BH Photo but they weren't accepting phone calls yesterday but now I see they've raised the price again.
Talk about a deal... It was in my gold box at Amazon a few days ago for like $1985 or something. Plus I the 5% discover promotion they had going on... They also threw in some extra goodies in there.
Final price would have been around like $1875... But I already had one so no use for me!
Woo hoo, lens just came on staff purchase and I nearly fell of my chair when I saw the price. Should be here tomorrow. I was ready to try the Tamron too.

Got mine a few days ago from the B&H $2049 sale. Purchased with some nervousness after trying the 24-70 I and not liking the weight, bulk and sharpness at 2.8. I have to say the 24-70 II lives up to its sharpness reputation and is very much a mini 70-200 II. Paired with the 5D III and its high iso ability seems like they were made for each other.
Tested mine on Focal Pro for sharpness and less than 2% sharpness gain stopping down from 2.8 to 4 where it reached peak sharpness at both 24 and 70mm.

You should still try the Tamron, it's awesome
I just rented the Tamron as part of a slow decision process. It is an awesome lens. I didn't shoot test charts or brick walls, just lots of family holiday action. Very nice lens. If it were not for some coma that would affect astro images, I would buy the Tamron instead without any regrets over the Canon.

What kind of a "deal" is that on a lens that should be priced around $1,600 at best.
Ha, could not agree more. For goodness sakes it is a normal range 2.8 zoom. I still think 2k is robbery. Tried the tammy but it found it slow to focus and engage the IS. Sticking with my cheap 24-70 2.8L

I haven't tried the Tammy, yet. I've had a stellar 24-70L v1, (after several duds) a several years now. I may pick up the new version when they drop the price.
