This Crane Hawk is the only hawk species that is classified Code 5 (accidental) by the ABA (American Birding Asso.)
The last time this species was recorded in North America was in 1988 (Texas) ...according to National Geo Field Guide to N.America Birds.....
I certainly am not gonna wait for him to return again and I'd captured this one in Mexico following some birders trip report on the web...Still, it took me a few trips to have finally seen him !!!
And this is also my personal 500th species of North America Birds In flight...
Fantastic find. That is an amazing looking Hawk. I thought it was kite at first with the red eyes. That must feel really good to have gotten such great shots of this Raptor.
Now that is really something! I've never even heard or much less went in search of this unique looking hawk,
It somewhat reminds me of a Secretary Bird from the long leg standpoint but is all hawk in the body and head. Thanks for sharing this and quite a way to mark 500 bif.
Congrats on quite an accomplishment. And the photos are not just documentary ones but excellent images!
