Just got the D800 and 24-70g as a birthday gift. Im am not really a fan of the focal range of the 24-70 and more of a prime lens guy anyways. I got this D800 to shoot portraits and need some BOKEH!! I do a mix between outside shoots (80%) and studio shoots (20%)
i want to keep it under or right around 2K
i will want a 50mm i love this focal range and find it useful for about everything i do so i want this to be my primary lens and spend probably the most money on it. Sadly this is also the hardest focal range to pick a 50mm lens so i have narrowed it down to
1. Zeiss 50 F/2 - The build quality is great. Sharp wide open and can be used for macro work. I have never shot with a full manual lens. I have heard once you get used to it its great.
2. Nikon 50 1.2 - BOKEH MASTA!! but how sharp is it? and again with the manual focus thing.
3. Nikon 50 1.8g - cheap and sharp. but really how is it?
then probably a 85 - 135 range
the 85 1.4 is out of the question as that would put all my money away
1. probably the 85 1.8g as i hear it preforms just as well as the 1.4.
2. 105 macro i hear can be used as a nice portrait lens.
any other suggestions?
If there is a another thread similar to this please point me to it. Thanks
The 85 1.8G is pretty sweet and a great price. The 50's are tougher, I shot with MF 50 for a long time without the benefit if live view, so I would lean toward the Zeiss for pure resolution. Though, you could almost get both Nikons for the price.

I would get the 50mm 1.8G and the 85mm 1.8G.
I own the 85mm 1.4G and it's amazing but if that's your budget and you need a 50 and 85 then get the above. If you're willing to stretch your budget a little bit, I would personally get the 50mm 1.8G and 85mm 1.4G...DONE
