I am far from an expert at shooting birds, or action in general but I was really pleased with the D800 and Tamron 70-300 VC combo today. I was really happy with the % of properly focused shots. I am loving this camera more and more every day as I get more comfortable with it.
Thanks for the feedback! Lara, there is a shadow in the botton of the frame with the brush in the background which created that shape. I did add some vignette in post though which I thought framed it a bit. I will play with lightening up the shadows some. Thanks again!
very nice Daniel, were you using a tripod for any of these or all handheld? I have to choose either a 50mm 1.8g or the tamron 70-300 as my next purchase, your pictures are really tempting me as i dont have this range covered.
Thanks to all. Unravel, the exif has not been striped, but I will add it here as well. The shots were all handheld. I was in a kayak which was not the most stable either. I have the 50 1.8G also, and that was the first lens that I bought with my D800. For me a telephoto does not get as much use so I got the 50 and a wide angle first.

The vignette needs to be feathered a bit, but, still a nice capture.
