I'm going to have to send mine in and was told by the camera store where I bought it that this is not an issue with this camera, I beg to differ. this is my second D800 as they replaced the first one. I'm wondering how many others have had this issue.
I use mine all the time, with o no problems. However When i upgraded my canons a couple of years ago my aftermarket wireless remote no longer worked with the newer cameras.
If it is a nikon product it could be a off run from the factory
I've never had a problem with the 10 pin connector on my D800, nor seen anyone have problems with one for the 8 years I've worked at a camera shop. What are you plugging into the 10 pin connector? Perhaps your problems are related to that rather than two faulty cameras in a row?
The only problem I ever have is loosening the knurled fastener with my Fred Flintstone fingers....it's worked with three bodies so far, D800, D3 and D700.....
I had to send my D800 in three weeks ago. It's the first body I've had with any problems of this type. And that means going back to the F-801/N8008. but Nikon fixed it, no questions asked.

I am using a MC-30 10 pin connector and I owned a D300 right from the time they came out and never had a problem, I say it's the D800 body .https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1176668
