All rumors right now. If released the question is what form will it take? Will it retain it's entry level status or will it become a potential mid level pro body replacing the 1D4?

The Rebel series are entry level. As Canon's top APS-C model, the 7D is the high of the low!
Not sure how valid it is, but in the January issue of Practical Photography (I get it on the IPad) Mandy Disher, a floral photographer, credits a 7DMKII+50mm in one of her photos. Could be a typo, if not maybe the camera is closer to release than expected.
I agree about the noise, even at 400. I know there are vocal bunch on photo.net who show that it can be processed out, but that's true for any camera.

Aha. But having to fix in PP is... meh. I'm waiting for the MKII. I can't stand the 7D as it is. It promised so much, but with that Achilles' heel.
CES isn't far away. But who knows?
Personally, I'd like a 12MP, 12FPS 7DMKII with a 50% reduction in noise at a reasonable price point.
Amen, love my 7d but could deal without the bg nr at high ISO.
I like the 1.3x crop sensor a lot as I used the 1D2 and then the 1D4 for many years, but I just don't see Canon doing it. I don't think they want the production line for it.

I've had a look at that (69p trial was worth a look) and I bet its a typo . There are 4 images and she credits the following:
I really hope they don't give us a bigger sensor . A they will charge more and it wouldnt work with EFs lenses .
B, the 7D is aimed at people for whome the really expensive lenses are out of reach (500/600/800 etc) I really don't want to have to give up the reach I have with my 7D at the moment .
That said I'd be happy if they kept the 18mp sensor (although 24mp seems to be the thing now) but just made it a little bit better noise (by the way I don't think it's terrible now!) , a slightly cut down version of the 5D3 AF (not sure the outer most points would work) . 2 card slots (1 SD at least) but with the same or better buffer the fw2.0 gave us (not the 6 frames max raw+jpeg the old fw had and the 5D3 has)
I'm fine with 8fps but can we have a couple more options as well ? Ie 6 & 5 as well as the 3 (I find it too big a jump and a lot of times I don't need 8 but I want faster than 3 fps)
Also I hope the new wifi thing from the 6D gets used (I can see all cameras getting this) . Also keep the built in flash that can act as a master . (Not sure why the 5D3 & 6D don't have it. Nikon seem to be able to and the D800 looks no less 'pro' for it
Oh and if it could be affordable that would be nice I seem to remember the 7D being over £1500 at launch here , but soon mad its way down to the £1200 point .
Also canon how about breaking mould with a new EFs lens to go with the 17-55 . I think priced well a 50-150/2.8 IS that has the quality of the 70-200L mk2 . Size could/should be about the same as the f4 70-200's . Sigma showed it was possible but dropped the ball when they brought the later OS version out which for some inexplicable reason the used the 70-200 OS caseing for .
Now I'm being v.greedy but an EFs 30ish 1.4 with IS would be great as well

Ridiculous comment. I use the 7D with the Canon 500mm f/4, as do hundreds of other photographers.

No doubt, the 'reach' provided by the 7D makes it popular with these lenses.
However, I think what Ian may be saying is that someone on a budget can use a 7D and a more reasonably priced 400mm option to get into the >500mm "effective" range without breaking the bank. This happens to explain my situation exactly.
Now, if money were no object, I would have a 1DIV and 500mm IS MkII, but money is an issue thus I have the 7D and 100-400L.

yes, agree about a 50-150 f2.8 for EFS. I would definitely get one of those if ever produced!
I purchased the 7D because I could only afford a 100-400L and needed something longer with good AF and low light abilities for Africa. The combination has been a good compromise between reach and cost for me. I don't find noise to be an issue, although I'm often up around ISO 3200. I find coaxing colours, tones and realistic balances between shadows and highlights the biggest difficulty with the camera.
I don't think I'll upgrade to a better 7D2, plan on getting a 6D for that.

On paper such a lens makes a lot of sense for APC-S cameras, but it seems Sigma 50-150 and Tokina's excellent 50-135mm f/2.8 never sold that much... :-(
