p.1 #1 · Equivalence of 80mm 1.4 R for Leica M-camera ?
Hi, I am trying M-9 camera. On Canon 5D, I use 80mm 1.4 R and really like this lens. What would be the equivalent for M lenses in terms of rendering, contrast, and sharpness. I understand there is no f1.4 for this focal length. Moving to the newer M and using $-M adapter is out of my budget now. Thanks.

The 75 Summilux-M is the same optical design changed to M mount. It is very good, but expensive. If you want something nice for less money, try the 90 Summicron-M (non-ASPH).

Thanks everyone for your recommendations. Mescalamba, 75mm lux is way out of my budget. Carstenw, I will look into 90 Summicron non-Asph. I can focus 80 Lux on Canon quite well but I read that focusing a focal length about 75mm on a range finder is a steep learning curve. No?

There are many generations of 90 Cron, and many of them are good. The one I like is the latest, and looks like the 90 Cron ASPH. However, it may also be a bit expensive...

Hm, what about Voigtlaender 75mm f1.8? Its not f1.4, but it could be within budget and its reasonably fast?
Otherwise, not much clue, but Leica made 135mm f2.8 in past. Not sure about price, but today M owners are usually not thrilled about this focal length.. They camed with "goggles" which are supposedly possible to modify to fit M9 (magnify OVF).
