I realized I am probably barking up the wrong tree posting this hear lol. Here goes was wondering if there is a real significant difference between lets say the latest TC offerings from these three manufacturers?

What I am looking at is AF speed and image quality when coupled with a 300mm f/4.

If you can point to some comparison that would be very appreciated.

I don't have a strict comparison, but I can offer my opinions after several years of using all 3.

The Sigma TC's work best on Sigma lenses.

The Tamron TC's were my first TC acquisitions and they work "okay" on most any lens, but I've ended up throwing mine in the drawer, years ago.

The latest Nikon TCs are the best on any Nikon lens. The clarity and AF is noticeably better, at least to me.

If I had a 300 f/4, I'd put the latest Nikon TC on it.

Sigma TC won't autofocus on Nikon lens.

Wow... It's been so long since I've used the Sigma TCs that I don't remember that issue, Bruce. Thanks for the backup.

bah... Gettin old sux.... But, it does beat the alternative.

I've heard from several sources that Sigma does not license mount information from Canon/Nikon, they reverse engineer it. From my observations ivevseen far more firmware issues with Sigma lenses and new camera models, which would support that rumor.

Use the Nikon TC-1.4 E II. A TC-1.7 E II is only useful in very bright light. BTW, makes sure you switch the lens focus limiter to -3m from Full when using the TC. This will keep the lens from hunting and slow focus acquisition in low light situations.
