I had a day off in New York, so I took the opportunity to roam around and take some photos. Wow, New York is so much more interesting than SoCal (from a street photography perspective)!! I could do this every day...
I know there is a street board, but I don't know anyone there and there ARE people in most of these shots...
I like the overall aesthetic, but can't understand if some of the focusing choices were intentional. For #2, was there a reason to focus on the sign rather than the guy ?
Zalmy, you killed this. It's interesting to me that these have a quite different look than your family work, much more reliant on shapes, leading lines, and other compositional approaches (totally logical due to not knowing the subjects, but impressed how quickly you transitioned into it).
Wonderful set, congratulations! If you're not a New Yorker, you certainly have a keen eye for showing it off. 9, 12, and 17 are the ones that grabbed me (and reminded me to get outside). Thank you for sharing.
Dneufarth, I wish, I so wish... I think most of the famous street shooters have no life, are dirt poor, and have a lot of time (until of course they got famous).
jrs5fg - I think I was counting on enough dof to cover him. I was at like 1/8th and I think he moved a bit.
Dave, I'm a sucker for compositional elements and the city offers them in boat loads. I'm hoping that as I grow I can do both at the same time i.e. get good compositions and good moments, consistently. I already don't have to think as much about exposure and focus (though I still think way more than I should), so I'm hoping his comes next...
afkenner, I did spend some time there growing up, but never wandered much out of brooklyn.
Funny how my favorite is 15, and no one really commented on that. Shows how everyone sees and appreciates differently (which is a good thing )
Zalmy, I definitely wasn't critiquing the comps in your family work as I think they're consistently really good. I was trying to make a statement about you smoothly changing the focus from moments to architectural aspects etc.... and probably butchered it a bit. Have a great trip and get back safe. Let's grab a beer in the new year.
Oh, gotcha. But I do sometimes see compositional flaws in m family work that is there due to obsessing (in a good way) over the other aspects (moment, exposure, focus...). And now that I know you were complimenting me ...
This was a month or two ago, so I'm back and safe. And yes, we definitely should get a beer soon.
