Ummm... Let me think... Heck ya I like it. This works well for baseball and this particular shot but there is small real estate for football. Basketball is a vertical game so the other layout is best for basketball.
Not sure on that top right corner. I will let those that are the experts chime in on that.

i would shrink the logo in the bottom left to make it fit inside the shape. for the top right i would do something like "Oceanside QB No. 4" in some variation where they are all horizontal

The grey is optional. The teams colors are blue and white, so I just picked it for the third color. If this was the New York Mets for example, one triangle would be orange and the other blue.
