What causes the defect shown in front of the rear tire in this pic?

If you're talking about just behind the door, it looks like a reflection of the pavement and the yellow line.

The posterization effect could be caused by various things, including:
- brightening a very underexposed image
- making severe image adjustments on a low bit-depth image (8-bit vs. 16-bit, for example)
- jpeg compression, particularly when using a low quality setting
- applying a special effects filter

I will have to find out what MAC computer program my brother used to reduce the file size.

Photo Gallery kept far better image quality, IMHO
