1. Boost the ISO to unacceptable levels.

2. Buy a camera with a better sensor to control noise at high ISO.

3. Buy a faster lens.

I think that's about it if you can't use flash.

Buy a 50mm f/1.8d lens for about $100
Auto ISO set to top upper level of ISO1600
or manual ISO to ISO 3,200 H1.0
Aperture mode set at lowest aperture.
A monopod (don't stand in front of anyone, adjust to you sitting in your seat)
steady the camera on a seat back if no monopod
Make sure vr is on
Maybe use 2 second shutter delay to further minimize shake (if camera is on seatback or monopod
Take some practice shots a few days before the play to see what acceptable shots will look like and at what ISO (grainy is better than blurry)
Be sure and have the shutter release "beep" turned off!

By the way, that's a slow but good combination (D80 and 18-200mm) I had it long ago. But it's not a great indoor, low light combo. It's a generalist kit...

Why all the AUTO settings? Yuck..... meter the light, and shoot in manual mode. Faster glass is a good suggestion, and the 50mm f/1.8 would be a good lens to use for theatre shooting. 1600 ISO will most likely render good results as long as the stage lighting is at a good nominal level.

Not sure of the OP's skill level, so I will say just stick with high ISO and a 50MM f1.8. Get there real early and grab a seat front row center. Monopod if allowed.

The 50MM is a basic lens. Inexpensive, fast and sharp.

But there is no more light in M and with the, sometimes, fast changing lights on a stage it is quiet difficult.

All CAPS is considered shouting. It also makes it more difficult to read when one skips punctuation.

Punctuation is a very important part of writing. Proper punctuation makes it easier to read and understand someone else's writing.
