p.1 #1 · ChumpCar Championship at Road Atlanta 2012

I had a good time out shooting the ChumpCar series at Road Atlanta this weekend. It is my home track, and it was fun shooting a new series. Met dinanm3atl, even if only for a second, thanks for the assist this weekend, met a couple other shooters out there too, Jeff and Perry.

I have not fully sorted through the 1750 images, these were just a few that I tagged in the field with the new firmware on the 7D. It had been a while since I shot RA in December, it is not very good for backgrounds this time of year...

#1 This has to be one of my favorite vehicles of the weekend...just not something you expect or ever see really.

#4 dinanm3atl's team car. One of the few that I saw that when I left still looked like it had not been beat up during the race.

#7 And this....I was surprised to see some of them change tires, I guess they get heat cycled out, or just need to give the street tires a break...hours on end on streets is tough.

#8 This guy was hanging it out each time by at Turn 10b, not sure if it was because he saw three photogs on the side of the track, or if there was an issue with the car...I am guessing the former...

As a racer myself, regarding #8, I'm pretty confident they were not hamming it up for photographers. It's probably just what the car wanted to do at that point.

As a driver and instructor myself, and knowing Road Atlanta pretty good from the drivers seat, if the car is out of shape right there...something is broken...this guy progressively stepped it out more and more each lap by, and I was being just a bit facetious about it being for my enjoyment, but it was certainly being done intentionally.
