p.1 #1 · Reverse Salt Flats in DV

I refer to them as 'reverse' since at some times of the year, depending on the recent weather conditions, the polygons are inverted, with the flats actually higher than the edges which are now troughs. It's always something interesting out there! Photographed with my Ebony SV45U, Rodenstock 90mm lens and Delta 100 negative film. Scanned on an Epson V700, wet mounted.

Haven't seen the inverted polygons before. Kind of like a valley covered by flagstones. Very nice look.

Glad to see you haven't forsaken your 4x5.

Hey Jeffrey,

What a super cool shot, this view is really nice. The different looking salt pans is a nice change.

Been there twice, but never had the "inverted" look before.
Cool to see and learn about.

Jeffrey,

I had no idea Bad Water salt flats did that. Do you know what sort of weather conditions triggers this? Is it seasonal or just depends on weather?

Very interesting information, thanks for sharing.

The BW is lovely. I like the various zig zagging lines that follow from the bottom of the photo all the way to the bottom of the mountains.

Hi Jeffrey,

This is just an instant classic. I love the glow coming from the flats.

Are you still shooting digital?

Oh yeah, Fred, sure am. Just scanned a two year backlog of films so been posting them. I'm at the point where I enjoy doing B&W films more than color films and may start doing all my color work digitally. However, when a color transparency is truly excellent I'll have it drum scanned because its harder to get color scans from my flatbed as good as I want them to be. And there are always exceptions!
