p.1 #1 · Holster/case for 7d+17-55m?

Hi everyone!

I'm currently looking for a holster/case that is simple enough to fit my 7d+17-55mm, and is sufficient for short walks when I don't need to lug around all my equipment.

Ease of use followed by aesthetics and cost, would be my priority. Here are some examples close to what I have in mind (as you can see, I love leather, but am open to other materials of course!) --

And some examples that do not fit the bill (I don't really want a case where I have to go through the hassle of unzipping, etc.) --

I probably don't need a case/holster that comes with its own strap, as I'd like to just use my own.

Anyone have any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

I think you'll find those retro leather cases to be unwieldy and unnecessarily heavy, and nowhere near as protective as either of the products you've rejected. I have used several different sizes of Think Tank Holster with no problem; it takes no more than 1.5 second to unzip, and functions as a handy lens changer/temporary holder for lens caps, filter cases etc. when the camera is out. Not only is it well padded, but comes with a rain cover. I haven't needed it, but unzipping the extended would allow use of a 70-200 attached to the camera in a pinch. I use the 20 for my 60D with L-bracket and 17-55 with room to spare.

I also like the Lowepro Toploaders and Lowepro's factory support. But they may be too practical for your application.

Thanks guys, I took dsjtecserv's advice into consideration and now agree that those leather cases might not be the best for me. I spent some time looking at ThinkTank reviews and also speaking to some B&H live chat reps, and am now actually leaning towards this bag that I found --

Detailed reviews on this Domke F-9 appear hard to come by though, does anyone here have any experience with it?

For what it's worth, I have been very happy with both my Think Tank and my Lowepro holster. I have one of each, and I would happily recommend either one.

Just wanted to check one more time if anyone has any experience with the Domke, before I made a decision? Thanks!

The Domke looks like a nice bag. My only concern would be the cotton absorbing moisture and generating dust.

Domke makes quality stuff. I have another model of their bag. The cotton is sturdy and does not make the bag look like a "camera bag" it just looks like a bag. There is ZERO padding inside just a layer of canvas. then you place one of their inserts in to the cotton bag. You can customize the interior this way. If you hapen to need more padding and bulk one day add a layer of bubble wrape under the insert. The advantage of this system is flexibility, buy several different inserts

BTW their inserts work in Pelican cases and non-photo backpacks

My system used to be domke bags inside a no-foam pelican case. I'd transport and store equipment in the Domke bags and bare inserts then when I get tot he place, I take a bag out of the peliican case.

I agree - both are going strong. I've had my Lowepro 75AW for 5 years and I reckon I'll get another 2-3 out of it.

Think Tank or Kinesis holsters would be my choice... different sizes for different camera/lens combos
