A leafless Cottonwood, misty clouds and new snow in the Elwha Valley several days ago.
Original image in color, but distinctly monochrome, converted to bw in PS, with enhancements. I first photographed this scene in November, 2006 and have attempted to get a better capture since, with similar atmospherics in season: still working on it.
I start my daily walks in the Elwha Valley at this place. Thanks for looking.
Beautiful in it's simplicity. Love the silhouette and vignette! The only thing that bothers me just a tech is the hill in the background directly behind the tree. My eye keeps going back and forth, and I think you want me focused on the tree. Perhaps fogging that over a bit, or moving to a square crop and eliminating the very top altogether?

Hi Jo,
Thanks very much for your most welcome and kind comments and glad you like the image, with qualifications.
My approach to the composition was to show the transition of Autumn to Winter: a leafless tree with a snowy mountain in the background, enhanced with wispy clouds. Also, the rounded crown (top) of the tree somewhat imitates the rounded top of the mountain, a sort of pairing.
