Something is really weird with my D800E or the 70-200VR II. Same settings take minutes apart and the exposure was different. Just test it again in my hotel room and the results are the same.
Have not done anything except viewing in NX2 and converted to jpeg 900px.
Check the aperture lever on the 50. Make sure it's not bent or broken. Can you move it manually and see the aperture leaves moving? Looks like it's not opening properly. If the lever is not engaging the actuator in the camera, then the lens stays at f22.
I was afraid that something is wrong with the 70-200 because my 14-24 and the 300mm af-s are behaving the same as the 50mm. Just test shooting out the window with all four lens. The 70-200 has a histogram that is mostly toward the right, where as the others are mostly in the middle and to the left just a little. Really weird..
Yes those 310 steps are pretty hard to walk up, especially with gears. There was very little fog yesterday and just a little windy. It was cold though, but cold to me is like 60 degrees...
Neddie, I checked the little level and noticed when I push the it to the right, the 70-200 does not go all the back to the left like the others. This may be the problem. I can just bend the level a little to fix it or should I send it in?
Sounds like it's binding on something inside. If it looks straight, the same as the others, then the lever is OK but something else is wrong. I'd send it in.
It is difficult to believe that the 70-200 is really at f/10. If you assume an EV of 15 at ISO 100, the shutter speed would be about 1/250 at f/11. At 1/1250 the exposure would be at least 2 stops under.
