My determination to improve and learn on interacting with strangers led me to post an ad through craigslist. I offered my services for free and I was contacted by a young mom to do a shoot for her and her two month old baby. This was my first baby shoot so I searched the web and bought me a couple of props. The experience was a true pleasure and could have not been any better.
I experimented with different styles in post processing just to see where it might lead me. C&C are always welcome and highly encourage. Thanks for viewing!
1 - this was done at the end of the night and I used a Canon 580 flash with -1 1/3 flash compensation Isha-Leyla-28.jpg by John Tolentino, on Flickr
4 - wasn't getting any good composition when the bucket was upright so we tipped it and got a few of these Isha-Leyla-22.jpg by John Tolentino, on Flickr
Nice stuff! Mom got a great photoshot for free! I would drop the pics with the heavy tilt and run away from the selective coloring. Both of those things are generally considered dated. Nice triptych in #3. 10 looks too soft to present. I agree on 6. Nice one.
Which editing style do you prefer of all of those represented here? Probably you'd be best off choosing that one and conforming them all to that mixed with some B&W.
It's hard for me to choose a favorite on processing as I see the mood on each images individually. But if I was to choose one then it'd be around the style of images 1, 6, 11, 13, 16. A bit more simpler processing and it's just all about the image.
Yeah the selective coloring was just for fun and practice. The tilt shots are actually surprisingly popular on how people like em. I guess photographers see it more as a trend style more than anything.
Steady Hand -
I totally agree with your comment on showing more of the baby's face. That was definitely the goal and didn't always achieved it with some of the poses.
Thanks again for viewing and commenting. This forum really helped me in developing my skill further.
I think the whole set is great and provides different looks that a client may or may not choose. Great job for a first baby shoot. I have two kids so I know it can be hard to get them to cooperate.

thanks renfield33 and Gaby617.
two month old was actually easy to manipulate. I told the mom not to feed her until they arrived on location and she was well behave once she was fed. Even fell asleep and I was able to get those basket shots.
Gaby - image 15 was the first image that I touched on post. I really like the mom's expression and it was a bonus having the baby looking straight through my lens.
Thanks again for the feedback everybody. It's a sure confidence booster for me to get some reassurance from fellow photographers.
