You had some good luck- and technique- getting so close. Because almost ALL the desert's predators eat these guys, it is quite remarkable that you did.
I wonder if that's the rabbit's den hole in the back. That might explain its apparent calmness. One look probably convinced brer rabbit that you wouldn't get far chasing it down the hole (no offense about your size ).

I always think of seeing Cottontails on grass or on the run in the brush, a different 'studio' look here, clean
