The Digic 5+ processor is a dual-core Digic.
So, no need to put two Digic 5s in a camera when a single Digic 5+ will do.
Really! Single digic 5+ cannot handle more than about 6fps @22MP, so 24MP at 10fps, will definitely need two. It takes 2 digic 5+ to push 14fps @ 18MP on 1D X. Specs sound very plausible.
Alas the chances of this using APS-H are between slim, buckley's and none.
70D may well take over role of original 7D, but 7D II specs would push this into 1D IV territory minus integrated grip. I'd expect $2.5K price tag and as long as it gets 5D III AF or equivalent performance from some other configursation I'll pay it in a heartbeat. Earlier rumours say the new sensor is the new tech that will go into the rumoured high MP FF. Given Sony and Nikon are using 24MP sensors even in entry level, it sounds plausible to me 7D II will tread this path. Although Canons APS-C sensor is 11% smaller than DX sensor, so 24.2MP on 7D II is like 26.84MP on DX
The fps seems a little high, but I can imagine the 24mpx. However, given the 1Dx is at 12fps now, bumping up the 7D replacement a bit may be OK. I'm more interested in the AF.
While these may sound 'too good,' remember canon has to give people a reason to upgrade. The current camera is 8fps, 18mpx, and decent AF. More or more of those things have to be significantly upgraded.

The 6D can do 20mp @4.5 fps with only 4 readout channels.
With 8 readout channels (as on the current 7D), the 7DII should be able to do 20mp @9fps with a single Digic 5+.
So, no problem with using a single Digic 5+.
The thing is, if the 7D is supposed to be a sports camera, then it doesn't need 24mp.
Or, if it's not a sports camera, it doesn't need 8+ fps.
Either way, 24mp and 10fps is extremely unlikely.
It might be either one of these but definitely not both.

The Digic 5+ processor is a dual-core (quad-core?) Digic.
So, no need to put two Digic 5s in a camera when a single Digic 5+ will do.
How would one digic 5+ handle 10fps at 24MP?? Not even close! In fact that would be at the total, utter out limits of what dual digic 5+ might manage I think.
Of course this rumor didn't mention the one key thing, the AF, so true or not it doesn't really tell one much.
As a Canon shooter I can only hope, but unless that thing has a Nikon sensor in it, it's going to be a mess noise wise. Canon, where is your new sensor tech Nikon and Sony have left you in the dust.

Sony A77 already has 24MP and can do 12fps albeit with some limitations. I see no clash here. As long as the IQ of the 24MP sensor is improved 0over the 7D's 18MP sensor, then bring it on.
I think the specs sound interesting but why would Canon market a 7 series 6 months after a 6 series with better non-sensor specs. By that I mean dual cards? Dual processors? I've even heard folks expecting focus specs care of a 1 or 5 series.
Understanding that this could be the new "high end" crop sensor I just wouldn't expect much different on the non-sensor related specs beyond a 6D.
On the sensor related specs, I agree with Jorkata, speed or pixels but not both.

Just my opinion.
So why would they market a dual digic 7D after the 5D II, with much better AF, more customisabilty, much higher speed? Different class of camera and IMO is the best replacement we can hope for for the 1D IV. No need to bring the 6D into the equation, it's totally irrelevant. Most people don't need 7D II specs, but sports and wildlife shooters certainly do.
Those specs suggests an upgrade policy by Canon that causes cannibalization of existing models by releasing new and upgraded models too early. I know Canon has made some bad pricing strategies lately but they are not that dumb.

Speaking as a sports/equestrian photographer who has no desire to lug around 10+ pounds of glass I will gladly take the reach that pixel density offers at 10FPS. This would be a killer companion body to the 1DX. I would buy one in a heartbeat if it were in the $3500 or less range.
