p.1 #1 · Lens Date Code & Serial Number The Same?

I'm sending my 200L in for the IS fix and need to verify the serial number. There seems to be a date code on the black plastic under the rear cap & a numerical huber on the side of the lens closer to the lens foot. Is one of these the serial number? Do all Canon lenses have two numbers?

The serial number is completely numerical. It's probably the second one you mention. Its 6-7 numbers long I believe.

Most have a date code as well as the serial number. here is an article that should help explain.
