| p.1 #1 · Some more water drops | |
The funny thing about water drops is I end up taking a completely different shot than I planned. The theme lately has been
- Try something new
- Fail miserably at it
- Notice something different
- Play around with that more
In this example I started trying to collide drops in mid air but wound up playing around with the reflections on the drops themselves. I have an idea how this happens but need more experimentation here.

Here I started by playing around with the background. I cut ND, diffuser, and scrim gels and tried them on the background but found I didn't like any of them so I just left the bare gel. I did find that a 1/4 diffusion gel worked well on the light underneath though. You can see another attempt to collide drops here. In this case they decided to just stick to each other instead.

This is an earlier shot where I actually succeeded in the mid-air collision. The original aim of this shot though was to test X-polarization. In this case this shot does not use it. When I did use X-polarization I found the effect interesting but one that requires more lights and a liquid other than black.
