Can someone tell me how I can check to see if my XFF1.4R lens has the latest firmware version. I have it mounted on a X-E1. Thanks!

Insert a blank formatted media in the camera. Turn on your "Camera" while holding down the [DISP/BACK] button. The number will displayed "CURRENT" showing the camera's current firmware version.
After checking the firmware version, press the [MENU/OK] button and then turn off your camera.

You don't actually have to format the card to check. I think it's just a precaution... so that you don't accidentally flash something that's not a firmware file (that'd be bad, but one would hope the camera runs a check on any potential firmware before flashing-- checking for a key).
