This is another image from Castle Bottom. We went there on a somewhat gloomy late afternoon, and I found this rather stark scene suited the light well.
The autumn colours are holding on and are still quite amazing in places.
Happened to be listening to Clair de Lune as this came on screen...you're right about gloomy and stark. It's like the foreground trees are "Have Nots" and those in the distance the "Haves." Everything can't be sunny, can it?

This is very nice. A wonderful use of light and depth of field plus your usual knack of visualizing the image. In some ways it is very primal but delicate in the way you wrapped the light nearly around each tree.
This is a great comp with a uniform tonality and palette. It is quite compelling. I'd consider removing that large diagonal branch in the URC, it distracts me.
