I went to update firmware in my 5Dmklll tonight. Installed a card with the latest upgrade and navigated to firmware window and as soon as I pressed update the complete body seized....nada...zip and I cannot bring it back to life.
Is there an internal battery or way to to perform a hard reset ?
TIA
Found the internal battery but no improvement with a 10 minute extraction...guess I'll leave it out overnight...looks like a possible vacation (no not for me)
If pulling both the internal and external batteries (pulled at the same time) doesn't resolve it, and assuming you have a good charged external battery, it will require a trip to Canon. Good luck.
Really strange...and I've perform umpteen upgrades..
I inserted the fresh file on an empty SD card ver 1.1.3...had original I think 1.0.7 into camera.
Went to firmware page in camera
Selected upgrade firmware and poof...camera instantly went totally off...nothing..nada...zip. I'm certain no data was even accessed on card.It went off instantly
Left overnight with internal battery out and dual grip batteries charging..this am..zip.
Removed grip, re-installed battery door...tried again with a batery actuall in the camera...nada..packed her up, printed a label and dug out a CPS shipping slip..

Look like SD card issue. Try again with a CF card.

No you don't understand..the camera is DEAD..
Sorry to hear that. Did you try the cold boost from CF card and fresh battery?
1) Remove all batteries, lens and leave them out for at least an hour.
2) Get the right firmware on freshly CF card (not the same card you had before)
3) Install clock battery
4) Turn power switch to "ON" position
5) Jamp the fresh battery into camera slot for a cold boost
6) Repeat step 5 couple times
