Are there any HDTV (larger than a 30 inch monitor) that can display photos with higher resolution than 1080p?

Not sure about now but 3.5 years ago when we made that decision, we went plasma as the whites and colour seemed more natural and less hysterical. Got a 46"

84" defeats the purpose of 4k resolution. It will still have the same pixellation as a regular 1080p when viewed from 2 feet away. It would have to be 4k resolution on a 46" screen to more closely match a PC monitor...

The market seems inundated with LCD/LED television screens. Plasma still looks better to my eye. Gonna miss the presence of the old Pioneer plasma televisions.

4K---- *ouch*

I'd like to see a square display with 8000 pixels on each side.

By definition HDTV is 1080 x 1920. So the answer is no. HDTV displays FAR fewer pixels than we record with even the oldest DSLR now in use. Think about it. Even with S-HDTV we are nowhere near displaying the detail in the images we collect.

Sharp will have a 32" 4k display soon, still a bit pricey.
