p.1 #1 · Canon 550ex Worth Repairing?

I've had a 550ex flash for a long time and never really overused it but today I put in a set of fresh batteries and it did not turn on. I double checked to make sure I oriented the batteries correctly (I did) but it was completely nonresponsive. I wonder if it's worth fixing it or not and if so, where to send it? Thanks,

I have 2 550Ex's as well as lots of 430EX's, I have never had one fail like that just through lack of use.

Over time the capacitor can get deeply discharged, I wouldn't necessarily give up, try some different batteries.

Also use a q-tip and some solvent to clean the battery contacts at both ends, they often get corroded and prevent the gun firing up.

I also have five Vivitar 283's that are very sluggish to start taking a charge after a long time off, but they have always come back in the end.

Is the unit not getting any power or is the flash just not firing. I had a bulb go out in 1 of mine years back, replaced the bulb myself... $15 part, about 30 minutes labor with a soldering iron. In this case, the unit would get power but would never fire.
