Great, thanks for that Rick. I'm looking at an X-E1 for my dad, and this 18-55 is an interesting solution. Not sure between this or something like the 35/1.4 or one of the shorter primes.
For a standard zoom I think it looks like it brings decent speed and good IQ to the table, along with OS, but darn if it just doesn't look awkward on the camera. I'm sure if they could of made it smaller they would of, but juts sort of seems to defeat the point of buying a RF style body if you put a big DSLR sized lens on there.
You end up with all the bulk, and don't even get things like a real OVF, or better grip etc.
You may be right Millsart - exactly why I got the X Pro1 instaed of the E X1 - lenses will be better balanced and appropriate size for the Camera - BTW - X pro 1 with this lens is still far better than lugging around a FF DSLR.
The Fujinon XF 18-55/2.8-4 OIS might look a little large on the X-E1, but I don't think it's a "...big DSLR sized lens", by any means. It's slightly larger than the Fujinon XF 35/1.4 R and slightly smaller than the Fujinon XF 60/2.4 R Macro, although the zoom is heavier and probably longer at some focal lengths and focus distances.
Compared to typical "SLR" normal zooms, it's quite small.
