My MAC recently updated to version 10.7.5. Now I can longer launch PS CS 5.1 in 32-Bit Mode. This is important to me because I have a plug-in that only works in 32-Bit Mode.

It is checked off in the System Preferences to launch in 32-Bit, however will only launch in 64-Bit.

Anyone else have this issue?

Are you sure you 'checked it off in Ssytem Preferences' ? Because that is NOT the place to do it.

Using the Finder, navigate to the Applications -> PHotoshop CS5 folder and eventually you'll find the actual Photoshop executable. Then do a cmd-I (get Info) and that is where you do it.

so you're saying that if you check off the 'Run in 32bit' box and doubleclick on the app it simply does nothing and if you uncheck it it runs?

Is that how you're launching it or are you using a Dock alias or some other launcher?

Have you looked at the Console output and/or have Activity Monitor running while trying to launch?

I wonder if the OS updater did/didn't update the dylib_cache or prebinding.

No, I'm saying it's checked off. I double click on the icon, and PS launches in 64 Bit mode every time.

I'm not certain what you are doing in System Preferences, but here is the correct procedure for running Photoshop in 32-bit mode:

1. In the Finder, locate the Photoshop application folder (it should be in the Applications folder).

2. Open the Photoshop folder. Then right-click the Photoshop application icon, and choose Get Info.

3. In the General section of the Info window, select Open In 32-bit Mode.

4. Close the Info window, and restart Photoshop if it was already open.

Possibly. My migration from SL to ML has not been totally painless. I would DL the application again. My money is on the update causing the issue.

I purchased CS6. That doesn't work either. I am almost 100% sure it's the upgrade to ML. Now can you downgrade a MAC?

Are you running mackeeper/macdefender by any chance?
Have you also deleted all the preference files for both 32 and 64 bit versions?

Well it took a complete reformat, but I got PS working in 32-Bit again. Mac Defender is a joke. Don't waste your money on it. From what I am reading it's nothing more than malware for a MAC that you pay for.
