Hundreds of thousands of birds nest and feed there because of all the pink-colored tiny tasty treats they feed upon (algae).
The water is so saline that the birds often have to fly many miles to find water to drink- and to wash off the salt that has stuck to them (feet and legs especially).
Thank you most kindly, guys and doll ().
Yes, that's smoke in the distance. We didn't drive around to that side of the lake (there may not have been a road). And I saw no buildings over there, soooo? My best guess is that the two fires were some sort of land-clearing operation for farming- but that's JUST a guess.
Wild flamingos in Florida- a lot cheaper to visit than East Africa .

great pictures specialy nr 3.
When was this ? I was there a short while a go and the lake was full, to much water, no flamingoes for me.
Thanks for showing.

Charlie, when I was on my honeymoon 32 years ago we visited Lake Naivasha...supposed to have maybe a million flamingoes...we saw 4...apparently they didn't read the guide book and were at another lake...maybe even Nakuru. So count yourself lucky!
