p.1 #1 · New York

Some of you may know I am out in New York (Manhattan) for a job and have been unable to come home until now. I have mostly been busy working or staying inside as directed. I did get out and take some photos to try to capture the feeling leading up to, during and after the storm. I donít know if I got it right, but I will share it here for your enjoyment. Note that almost everything is shot with the new 24-70L II wide open (except the Times Square revelers at the beginning shot with the 24LII and 50L).

The first shots are from Saturday night. The people were out for costume parties etc and the mood was on edge.

The next series are from Monday night just before dark as the storm pushed in hard.

The dusk/night shots following are from Tuesday dusk and night, the day after the storm.

The last shots are from this morning Wednesday 10/31 as the sky turned from murky and we saw the sun for the first time since I have been here.

Exif Data intact.

Very nice stuff. All the colors from the street reflecting on the wet concrete look really, really good.

Okay I guess, I'll be the party pooper. It's a nice series, but when I first tried to open this on the phone, nothing loaded. Nada. And I had no idea why. Seeing this at home, now I know why. 75 shots in a post is way, way too many. Some, actually, many can be eliminated simply because you have similar stronger shots of the same scene (such as SUBWAY #1 compared to SUBWAY #2), or other shots that don't measure up to some of the others. I thought the first 25 were really strong and then I started to lose interest after that and just wound up scrolling through the remainders just to see how many more there were. The first third outshine the remaining two thirds in my eye.

I think you could have presented your top 20 and then linked to the rest if you wanted to show them. Again, this is just one person's opinion... overall, I think you have some nice shots in there that really tell a story.

I agree that there are too many and I should have narrowed them down. I was posting these right after the storm from my hotel stuck in Manhattan and just wanted to get them out there right away so I could share them. There are really only about 10 that are up to my standard, but I got such good reactions and the topic was so top of mind that I have left them. If you cut them down to 10 or so, you just don't get the sense of what it felt like to be there over those few days. It was so surreal that I wanted to share that experience. I appreciate the feedback. I also really agree that the first third I had a much better groove shooting. The stuff in the middle during the storm, I was walking from my edit session to the hotel and working with my 5DII and 24-70II with no rain gear and worried about how wet the camera was getting. It is a short walk and I did fail to capture the storm except perhaps one of the subway shots and maybe one other. Walking to dinner Tuesday night (third part of the series) again I agree the shots are flat and it is only on the way home after a few drinks that I like the shots... Hmmm the morning after city shots from the hotel window could also be narrowed down to 1-2 for sure.
